New Delhi: Union Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced on September 15, 2025, that railway projects worth Rs 77,000 crore are underway in the Northeast region. This ambitious initiative aims to enhance connectivity, foster economic development, and integrate the region with the rest of India, marking a new era of infrastructure growth.

Project Details

Vaishnaw highlighted that these projects include the construction of over 1,200 kilometers of new railway lines, electrification of existing tracks, and the development of modern stations. Key initiatives encompass the Jiribam-Imphal line in Manipur, the Arunachal Pradesh railway network, and upgrades in Assam and Tripura. The minister emphasized that Rs 50,000 crore has already been invested, with the remaining funds allocated for completion by 2027. These efforts are part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and the Dedicated Freight Corridor, designed to improve freight movement and passenger services.
